Part 2 Teaching objectives

1. Knowledge objectives: a) The Ss can hear, read, and use the main sentence patterns.

b) The Ss can understand the content of the lesson. c) The Ss can use the patterns to express their thoughts in the proper situation. 2. Ability objectives: (1) To develop the Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

(2) To train the Ss’ ability of working in pairs.

(3) To improve the Ss’ reading ability, especially their skimming and scanning abilities. 3. Emotion or moral objectives: To understand the different cultures in different countries. Part 3 Teaching key points and difficulties: By learning this passage, let the students know more about Canada and improve their reading abilities and skills. Part 4 Teaching Methods:

In my opinion, the main instructional aims of learning English in the

Middle School is to develop the students’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading, writing and their good sense of the English language. So in this lesson I’ll mainly use “Communicative”

Approach(交际教学法), “Whole language teaching”

(整体语言教学法)and “Task-based”

language teaching (任务教学).

Part 5 Teaching Aids: The blackboard, the textbook, the multimedia . Part 6. Teaching Procedures:

Step 1 Lead-in. At the beginning of the class, I will show a short video “A trip to Vancouver”. Students can enjoy the city’s scenery and people’s life. The purpose :to arouse students’ interests of studying English and to let students prepare for the study of this unit.

Step 2 pre- reading According to the title, students try to guess about the trip: who, where ,how. And guess what does “the true north” refer to?

The purpose is to inspire students’ interests of reading this text.

Step 3 fast reading Read the passage quickly and finish two tasks Task 1: fill in the blanks

Task2 :match the main idea of each paragraph . The purpose is to get the main idea of passage and develop students’

reading skills. Step 4 careful reading

Task1:read the text again and work out the travel route. Task 2:find out the detailed information about each place. Task 3 discussion : find out the reasons why many people want to live in Vancouver.

The purpose is to make a further understanding of the passage and improve students’

reading abilities.Their ability of cooperation is also trained.

Step5Summary

Fill in the blanks about the summary of the text. The purpose is to consolidate the knowledge we have learned in this lesson and improve their ability of using language.
