Proper words and expressions on IT: Abacus, calculator, PC, laptop, PDA, analytical, Charles Babbage, artificial intelligence, Alan Turing, designer, tube, transistor, chip, network, web, application, download, programmer, virus, android, electronic,logical, logically. 2.

Grammar:

the present perfect passive voice: have/has been done. 3.

Skills:

Listening: Three tasks are designed to help improve the students’

listening abilities,i.e., listening to the words and expressions, listening to the passage and the listening exercises intended for the unit. For t he first two, the purpose is to help pronounce and remember the words and further have a better understanding of the main idea of the passage on IT. For the third, it is a listening exercise specially designed to help enhance the students’ listening. Speaking: during the warming-up period, the students are organized to talk individually and in groups to talk about the history and development of computers and the Internet.

Reading: Reading, esp, fast reading is designed to help grasp the main idea of the passage，and two skills are involved, namely, skimming and scanning. While the latter is aimed at understanding the specific information, the former is for the main idea, the most important task for extensive reading. Process and methods:

The students are supposed to participate in the class activities independently mainly. 2.

Cooperation is appreciated. 3.

Modern facilities should be engaged in the procedure, that is, slides, computer, the Internet will facilitate teaching &learning. Values: Scientists are the frontiers in the advancement of history.Their initiatives and responsibility for history should be appreciated. Teaching process: I. Preparation.
