The –ing form as the Subject & Object Introduction

In this period students will be first helped by the teacher to discover and learn to use some useful words and expressions, and then to discover and learn to use the following useful structures: the –ing form as the subject & object. The following steps of teaching may be taken: Warming up reading the text aloud，Discovering useful words and expressions，Read and identify，Consolidating by doing exercises，Ready used materials for the –ing form as the Subject & Object，Closing down by doing a quiz. Step3: (一) 动词的­ing形式作主语

1．动词­ing形式作主语时，多表示经常性、习惯性的动作，谓语动词多用单数形式。

但若意义不同的两个动词­ing形式并列作主语时，谓语动词需用复数形式。

2．形式主语it代替动词­ing形式作主语的常见结构：

(1)It is＋adj.＋doing sth. It is useless/ pleasant doing sth.

It's worthwhile doing sth. (2)It is a waste of＋n.＋doing sth. It's a waste of time doing sth. (3)It is no＋n.＋doing sth. It's no good/no use doing sth. Step4: (二)动词­ing形式作宾语

1．在

admit，avoid，consider，enjoy，escape，excuse，finish，imagine，mind，miss，practice，suggest，delay，appreciate等动词之后只能用动词­ing形式作宾语。

2．在动词短语

give up，put off，get down to，object to，look forward to，devote …

to，can’t help，can’t bear/stand，dream of, be interested in等之后只用动词­ing形式作宾语。

难点突破

某些动词及动词短语后面既可以用不定式也可以用动词­ing作宾语

1．动词begin，start，continue等后跟不定式和跟动词­ing作宾语，意义基本相同。

2．动词love，like，hate等后跟动词­ing作宾语表示经常性的情况，跟不定式表示具体的动作。

3．一些动词后跟动词­ing作宾语和不定式作宾语，意义有很大差别

forget doing sth.忘记干过某事

forget to do sth.忘记要干某事

remember doing sth.记得干过某事

remember to do sth.记住要干某事

regret doing sth.后悔干了某事

regret to do sth.很遗憾要做某事

mean to do sth.打算做某事

mean doing sth.意味着做某事

go on doing sth.继续干同一件事

go on to do sth.接着干另一件事

stop doing sth. 停止正在做的事

stop to do sth.停下来去干别的事

4．在need，want，require，表示“需要”时后用动词­ing的主动形式表示被动

need/want/require doing ＝……to be done

这所农舍需要修理
