Unit Two English around the world The First Period (Warming up & reading) Teaching aims:

1. Get the students to learn different reading skills. 2. Get the students to learn about the English language. Teaching important points: 1. Develop the students reading ability. 2. Enable the students to learn about English language and know different kinds of English so as to communicate with people from different countries. Teaching difficult points: Develop the students’ reading ability.

Step Two: Leading-in

Ask the Ss several questions about English.

Step Three: Warming up Deal with the

two major kinds of English: American English and British English. Step Four: Reading Task 1:

Look at the title of the passage and guess the meaning of “road”.

Task 2:

Fast Reading Read the text fast to match a key sentence for each paragraph.

Task 3: Careful reading

Please read the passage carefully and fill in the form (according to the time).

Step Five:

Discussion

Reasons for English development: 1. How did English spread to other parts of the world? 2. Why has English changed over time? Step Six: Homework 1. Fill in the blanks using proper words according to the text. 2. Read the text again after class and tick out the difficult sentences and knowledge points.
