Text and students analysis: There are four descriptions of different androids in the listening part. Students are required to get the detailed information about these robots, including their height, ability and appearance. As the material being quite short, which doesn’t have much new words and structures; it is in general not a difficult task to finish. However, the reading passage is a rather long one and can be divided into different parts. After analyzing the text, we might possibly get the basic information (appearance, size, ability, job) about Andy the android. Thus it is possible to ask students to deal with the information they get from the text in the same way they used to process the information they get in the listening material, which, according to them, is a much easier thing to do. 

Listening

Listen to the whole text and try to write down the main idea in one sentence.

Two students are talking about information technology. 2). Listen for the second time and fill in the chart on exercise 3 with your partner

( Teacher had better play the listening materials one more times to make sure all the students can listen clearly)

3). Discussion:

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each form of IT? In small groups discuss this question and put your ideas on to the chart. Then decide when each kind of IT is most useful. Use the reasoning expressions on PPT 11—12 in your discussion.

Step 4. Reading Ask the students to read the text and find out what is Andy and it’s characters.

Andy is part of an android football team. Andy is as big as a human. In fact, Andy looks like one too. Andy is a striker on the football team. Andy can run very fast. Andy’s computer chips help him to move and think like a human.

2. Read the passage carefully and fill in the file for Andy in exercise 1 on page 23. 3. Create your own android. Fill in the file in exercise 2 and compare with your partner. Step 5. Deal with the language points in this part.
