Working the land Grammar V-ing as subject & object

Teaching aims 1. Knowledge goal The v–ing form as subject and object 2. Ability goal Ss enable to master the usage of the v-ing form as subject and object correctly and freely

Teaching important points The v-ing form used as subject and object Teaching difficult point 1. With v-ing form as subject, the number of the predicative verbs should be single form; 2. Pay attention to some verbs can be followed both by v-ing and to do as objects. Lead-in

Show pictures on the screen. Students complete the sentences on the screen based on the pictures. By doing this, students have a general idea of v-ing form as subject. Step Two Presentation Part 1. Students read and observe several sentences carefully and try to draw a conclusion that v-ing form serving as subjects with single form of verbs. Playing computer games is a waste of time. Smoking is bad for our health.

Driving too fast is dangerous. It is a waste of time persuading him to change his mind. As a saying goes, it is no use crying over spilt milk. It is fun going for a picnic with family in the sun.

Conclusion 1:v-ing 作主语

1) v-ing 直接在句首作主语，谓语动词用单数；

2) v-ing 在It is no good/no use/ fun /a waste of time + doing的句式中作主语，it为形式主语, 而真正的主语v-ing则位于句尾。

The teacher asked us to stop talking. They tried to do the task in many different ways. Conclusion 2: v-ing 作宾语

1) 有些动词或短语动词后用v-ing作宾语。如avoid, can’t stand, can’t help, mind, imagine, consider, enjoy, escape, feel like, give up, keep (on), look forward to, miss, put off, suggest, etc.

2. forget, go on, mean, regret, remember, stop, try, be used to, can’t help后跟v-ing与to do区别较大。
