六、Teaching steps: Step 1. Show a picture of the Temple of Heaven to lead in the topic “Cultural Relics” and ask the students: Q: What are cultural relics? Purpose: Lead in the lesson directly and catch students’

attention with the beautiful picture and the question.

Step 2. Finding and Concluding

Teacher show more pictures of cultural relics to ask students find what they have in common to conclude the characteristics of cultural relics to get better understanding of cultural relics. Q: What do they have in common?

Teacher introduce some kinds of cultural relics to help students identify cultural relics better.

Step3 Presentation

Group work: making reports 1.

Teacher invite students to enjoy more wonderful pictures of cultural relics in the world and ask students something about cultural relics in China. 2.

Teacher use a popular TV program, “National Treasure”

to introduce the presentation. Students make their reports with the colorful poster in groups which is the homework last class. 3.

Teacher presentations. Purpose: This part is very important in this class. Students have worked in groups to make their reports on cultural relics in China. It will be attended to practise students’

ability to work in groups and their speaking ability. At the same, students will love our country better during this task.

Step 4 Discussion 1.

After the students’

presentation on cultural relics in give proper feedback on students’

China, they know more cultural relics and feel proud of them. Teacher show more pictures of other foreign leaders visiting our famous cultural relics. Purpose: Emphasize the importance of cultural relics for us and consolidate the function of them.

Teacher show an unexpected situation of cultural relics in China with a video about the present situation of cultural relics: they are being damaged

Purpose: Put forward the present situation of cultural relics in China to lead in the next topic: how to protect cultural relics after students feel proud of them. This will make them think deeply and are eager to give their opinions. At the same time, the video can help students express their opinions better. 3.

Ask students to discuss in groups to collect the solution as many as they can.

Q: What should we do to protect cultural relics? Purpose: Discussion can help students think of more solutions to make preparation for the answers. This kind of teamwork will help them learn from and helps others.

Teacher ask some students to express how to protect and write them on the blackboard.

Purpose: Writing the solutions to make them clear and make preparations for the homework,writing.

Step 5 Summary 1.

Guide students to retell the characteristics of cultural relics and say some cultural relics learned this class. And make summary on the solutions to review some words and expressions.

Homework

Ask students to write a letter to the local newspaper to give some suggestion on how to protect cultural relics based on this class.

Purpose : The homework combine the speaking with the writing to practise both speaking and writing to realize the output of language.
