Reading and speaking

The purpose of this reading is to introduce students to English jokes. Two kinds of jokes are shown here. The first shows how different meanings can make something amusing. This is called"play on words". The second kind of joke is a short funny story. Both jokes are very popular in English-speaking countries. Let the students discuss whether they find the jokes funny and if there is an equivalent in Chinese humour. Perhaps they will be able to find the jokes they love or make up similar ones.
