Lesson 11 What do they eat? I. Teaching objectives

a) Knowledge and skill objectives By the end of this class, ss can master some new words such as grass, fish, and banana. Besides, ss are able to use the sentence pattern “What do monkeys eat?” “Monkeys eat bananas.”

b) Ability objectives Through practice, ss will be able to improve their listening and speaking skills. c) Emotional objectives After learning this lesson, ss can realize the importance of environmental protection and can show more interest in animal protection. II. Teaching key and difficult points. Given the teaching objectives, the teaching key points of this lesson are the new words such as grass, fish, banana, and the main sentence pattern “What do monkeys eat?” “Monkeys eat bananas.”

As to the teaching difficult points, it is to develop the ss’ listening and speaking skills. III. Teaching tools Video; PPT; Multiple media player. IV. Teaching methods Based on the analysis above and the new curriculum standard, I am going to adopt Task-based Language Teaching Method and Communicative Approach in this lesson to fulfill the teaching objectives.

V. Learning methods The students are supposed to improve their learning and speaking skills through cooperative learning and group work. VI. Teaching procedure Step1 Warming up and Lead-in I will firstly greet the ss and share a short video with the ss. Step2 Presentation In this step, I will firstly write the key new words on the blackboard. (Blackboard: grass, fish, banana) Then, I will ask the ss to read after me for several times, just like this “grass-grass-grass, fish-fish-fish, banana-banana-banana”. After that, I will ask the ss to practice in pairs and I will correct their pronunciation. Then we are going to play a game called “What’s missing”. All of the ss will be asked to close their eyes and I will cover one of the words. Then I will ask the ss to tell me which word is missing. Furthermore, I will cover one of the letters and invite some ss to tell me which letter is missing. After that, I will draw some pictures on the blackboard. (Blackboard: Drawing) Then the PPT will be presented and some sentences will be presented in some certain situations. Then, I will ask the ss what they have seen and encourage the ss to guess the meaning of these sentences. Then, I will ask the ss to open their books to check if they are right. At the same time, I will write the main sentence pattern on the blackboard. (Blackboard: What do monkeys eat? Monkeys eat bananas.) Then I will ask the ss to read after me with the change of the objects, just like this “What do monkeys eat? Monkeys eat bananas.”

“What do cows eat? Cows eat grass.”

“What do cats eat? Cats eat fish.”

Step 3: Practice

In this part, I will ask the ss to work in pairs. One student asks the questions, while the other student answers the questions. After several times, I’ll ask the ss to switch their roles. Step 4: Consolidation I’ll ask the ss to work in groups and have a discussion about their favorite animals and the food that these animals eat. Then the ss will be asked to present their discussion to the whole class. Step5: Summary In this part, I will ask the ss to summarize what we have learned this class, and I will make a comment on their summary.
