Step I: Lead in

1.Watch the video about identifying Chinese poems from picture. 2. How to write composition according to the given picture. [The purpose of design]：Introduce the topic of this class interestingly and ask the students to think how to write a composition according to picture.

StepⅡ: Pre-Writing:

Guide the students to describe the following picture: 读下面图画，按要求用英语写一篇词数为120左右的短文。

内容包括：描述画面；概述其含义；谈谈个人感想。

注意：

ironic Enjoy the sample: In the picture, we can see a boy in worn clothes, who was reading a book with full attention.He was sitting at a shabby wooden table with a pile of books on it and a weak ray of light came in through a small hole in the wall. This is a well-known story from an ancient Chinese idiom. The boy,

being poor, couldn’t afford even a candle, so he bored a hole in the wall to “steal” light from his neighbor’s house to read at night. The moral of the story is that we should spare no effort to acquire knowledge and never get discouraged easily no matter how difficult the situation may be. Of course, things are totally different today. It is not the story itself but what is reflected in the story that counts. Hard work pays off. We should take pains to improve ourselves through learning and get prepared for the future.

2.Ask students to summarize the structure of the composition. Para.1 Describe the picture as a whole Para.2 Analyse the content of the picture in detail Para.3 Show the profound meaning in the picture [The purpose of design]：Provide the students with three questions and useful expression in order to finish the task, and then enjoy the sample, finally, summarize the structure of the composition.

Ask students to write a composition according to the picture on their exercise book. [The purpose of design]：the students write their composition with the help of the structure of picture composition and useful expressions and sentences. Step Ⅳ

Post-writing: Evaluation

Evaluate two compositions of students together according to structure, content and language. [The purpose of design]：Students can find mistakes of their classmates’ to avoid making them in their composition; promote students’ ability of writing an composition according to pictures to improve students’ written ability.

Summary Give students the outline of this compositon. 1.

Teaching reflection：

Picture composition is one of writing styles in English, however, it is difficult for students to write out, for they are ignorant about the steps of writing and the structure of it. Therefore, it is high time that we deal with it in class specially. The key advantage of this teaching design is to guide the students with three questions to grasp the structure of the picture compositon. In addition, giving students some useful expressions and sentences to describe pictures and find out the instructive meaning of the picture. But the difficulty lies in how to obeserve the picture and interpretate informative meaning of the picture clearly and fluently.
