Teaching Plan for M6U5 Reading and Writing The Lake of Heaven

Analysis of teaching material:

The text is a descriptive writing about Tianchi, which is in Changbaishan, both a volcano and the largest nature reserve in China. It is a logical passage with two parts. The first part is a general introduction of Changbaishan, covering its location, size, special features and so on, while the second part describes the Lake of Heaven, the most appealing site in the mountain. The logic from general to specific as well as the expressions used in describing a tourist attraction deserves students’ attention due to its practicability. The history and the legend of Tianchi can also enrich students’ knowledge about our culture.

Analysis of students:

The students are from Class 2, Senior 2 in Guangzhou No. 97 Middle School. They have great interests in learning English and they are willing to meet any challenge they are faced with. As for their cognitive levels, remembering and understanding is within their capacity. However, they can perform better in applying and analyzing. Their ability to evaluate and create also needs further development.

Teaching Aims: After learning the lesson, students will be able to: 1)

have a general idea of the organization and expression about how to describe a tourist attraction. 2)

appreciate the culture of Changbaishan and the Lake of Heaven.

3)

Write a passage about Baiyun Mountain by applying the learned expressions and polish it.
