A Night the Earth Didn’t Sleep 二、教材地位和学生教学现实分析：

本单元的中心话题是“地震”，内容涉及“中国唐山地震的不眠之夜”、“美国旧金山1906年地震”、“地震后重建的新唐山”、“地震的基本知识”、“在地震或突遇的灾难中如何自救、救人”等。本单元的语言知识和技能都是围绕这一主题设计展开的。

学生对本单元的话题—地震熟悉，但是缺乏相关的英语词汇,有学习的欲望。学生具备一定阅读能力，掌握了一定阅读技巧，但仍有待提高。高一学生处于高中英语学习兴趣培养和学习习惯形成阶段。他们希望在学习过程中享受到乐趣，不希望老师死板地讲解字词及语法。希望老师能够激发他们的好奇心和创造力，并与他们日常生活紧密相连的学习，语境是他们希望教师在课堂上能呈现的东西。一旦教师走进他们的生活，他们就愿意跟着教师走，掌握文化知识，了解学习策略，形成良好的人生观和价值观。

Step Ⅰ: Lead-in

Good morning,everyone! I’m very happy to be here and have a class with you .Some pictures about earthquakes for students to talk about . By talking about wenchuan earthquake,students learn some new words about the earthquake and then come to learn another big earthquake in China.---Tangshan Earthquake

Step Ⅲ:Careful-reading

Read each part of the reading and try to find some details.
