Topic: I like my new home

Period: 2nd

Sub-task: To finish the information card of one’s home, then make a dialogue in pairs and get information about one’s friend’s new home, then write a passage about it. Background analyses: The students of Grade Five have learnt English for at least four years, they have had the abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing of some simple daily expressions. Before learning this module, the students have had a preliminary concept of space, they are able to read a map of a neighborhood. And they have learnt using nouns to identify community facilities, rooms at home, facilities in rooms and their functions. In addition, they can use modeled sentences to express the frequency of certain actions, they can also use verb phrases to talk about things usually do.

This is the second period of this unit. In the last period, the students have learnt using verbs to indicate directions.(e.g. north, south, east, west) and using modeled sentence to describe the direction of the room. (e.g. It faces ….). They could use verb phrases to talk about things usually do in different rooms.(e.g. This is the study. I always do my homework and read books here.). They could get information about one’s home and favorite room by making a dialogue. In this class, the students will learn how to use wh-questions to ask for reasons and use modeled sentences to give reasons. They will learn to describe their own new home, the favourite room and the reason. The task of this class is to finish the information card of one’s home, then make a dialogue in pairs and get information about one’s friend’s new home, then write a passage about it. Objectives:

1. To use wh-questions to ask for reasons. e.g. Why do you like it? 2. To use modeled sentences to give reasons. e.g. Because it faces south. There is a lot of sunshine. 3. To use formulaic expressions in context. e.g. -Are you happy with our new home? -Yes, it’s lovely. 4. To describe my new home both in oral and in written.(My new home) Difficulties: To use wh-questions to ask for reasons and use modeled sentences to give reasons. Aids: SB, multi-media, cards, worksheet
