Lesson 8 The Weather around the World Ⅰ. Teaching aims 1. Knowledge ①Words:rainy,windy,cloudy,sunny,snowy,fine,foggy,weather,London,Paris, Sydney, New York ②Sentence structures: How’s the weather? What’s the weather like?

2. Ability: Talk about the weather and greet each other with a new structure. 3. Cultural awareness: A new way of greetings and asking about the weather is quite a common greeting in western countries. ⅡImportant points: A new way of greetings and the description words about the weather. Ⅲ.Difficult points: How’s the weather? It’s rainy/windy/cloudy/sunny/snowing/.

ⅥTeaching procedures

Step1. Warming up 1. Ask the Ss randomly: What’s the date today? What day is it today?

2. Sing a song Step2. Presentation 1.

Show some pictures on the screen and ask Ss what can they see. Then ask them what do they think about the weather in this picture. Present this new structure: What’s the weather like? 2.

Practice with the new structure by the whole class: pick Ss to answer these questions about weather. Get them answer like: It’s snowy/windy. 3.

Play a game. Let Ss stand up as fast as they can if they know how to answer my questions. Step3. Presentation 1.

Show some places like Paris, London, New York... And ask them where is this place. Ask Ss by the new sentence structure : What’s the weather like in...../How’s the weather .... Get them answer like: It’s foggy in Paris. 2.

Choose one to make a conversation like: What’s the weather like in London? It’s sunny in London. And keep this conversation continue among the students. 3.

Practice with the structures in pairs: How’s the weather? and What’s the weather like?

Step4. Listening practice.

1.

Listen 4 conversations and complete blanks on the paper. 2.

Choose some students to answer and read them together. Step5. Choose one to the front and others ask him questions like: What’s the weather like in Sichuan?

How’s the weather in Hong kong? Step6. Homework

Make a conversation on the paper and read it to us.
