Teaching plan By Fan Hongbin I. The analysis of the teaching material ( 教材分析

) The teaching material is selected from Module 9 Unit 3, which gives students a better understanding of Australia including its general situation, geography, scenery, cities, animals and so on. It is hoped that students will be able to use this information to broaden their horizons. Reading part plays a very important part in this unit. By studying the lesson, students will be able to improve their reading ability, learn more about the issues.

This lesson is designed as a warming up and reading lesson. According to the new curriculum standards of senior high school English, students are expected to achieve the skills of a.

understanding the purpose of the passage and main idea; b. skimming and scanning for the needed information; c. grasping the details; d. guessing the meaning of new words.

II.The Analysis of the Students ( 学情分析

)

Most students have known and grasped lots of words and they have mastered the basic reading skills. They have interest, passion and some competence in English. Students need to solve practical problems with knowledge they learn in class.

Students will be interested in this passage, as it is closely related to their life.

III.Teaching Aims ( 教学目标

) a. Task-based Language Teaching : During the course, different tasks are designed for Ss to carry out. Whether and how they finish the tasks can reflect on how much information they grasp from reading. In return, the teacher can adjust his teaching. b. Cooperative Learning: Divide the class into small teams, each with students of different levels of ability. Every member of a team is responsible not only for learning what is taught but also for helping teammates to learn, thus creating an atmosphere of achievement. c.Question-and-answer activity teaching method. d. Step1. Warming up

Teacher’s activity

1. Show some related words, share a photo of a charming Australian who is definately a

symbol of Australia and show a related video .

2. Show pictures of six places in Australia and ask Ss to tell the names of them and find out their locations.

2nd Students’ activity

a) Read the description, see the photo and appreciate the video getting more concrete idea of Australia and knowing people there are warm-hearted and strong-minded.

b) Get more familiar with the country by analyzing and answering the questions.

3. Report presentation Share their reports in class with Ss.

Pre-reading 1. Show 2 questions and ask Ss to glance quickly at the five texts and then answer them .

2. Each reading passage is related to a certain description ask Ss to match each passage with a description. 1.

Share the method of finding topic sentences and key words.

3. Show a form related to the passages and ask Ss to read the five texts again more carefully and fill in the form.
