Teaching Aims: 1 Let student learn nonverbal humor. 2 Train students’ predicting, skimming and scanning skills.
3 Encourage the students to keep optimistic attitude to life, foster sense of humor and cultivate their taste. Teaching Important points: 1 Master some useful expressions. 2 Enable the students to understand the text better. Teaching Mathods: Individual, pair and group work. Teaching Aids: 1 Multimedia teaching. 2 Blackboard. Teaching steps: Step 1: Leading-in and pre-reading 1 Review the context of last class. 2 Show some pictures of gold rush.
3 Let students think about and discuss some questions. Step 2: Reading 1 Let students scan the text and finish the information 2 Let students read carefully and summarize the main ideas. Step 3: Discussion Why do you think he was so successful? Step 4 :Homework Watch one of Chaplin’s film and write a short introduction of the film and your comment on it.
