Teaching objectives: At the end of the class, my students are expected to be able to 1) distinguish between a fact and an opinion; 2) retell the story of the reading material; 3) master some language points. Key points: 1)

Show students four statements and have them decide which are facts or opinions. 2)

Have them discuss what makes a fact and an opinion and their differences.

Step 2: Reading

First reading (Fast reading) Have students scan the text and summarize each paragraph with ONE word (noun).

Second reading 1)

Have students read the text again and define the three words they’ve found in the previous task. 2)

Have students decide whether the three statements are a fact or an opinion.

Third reading Have student read a story and decide whether it is an act or opinion and give reasons.

Step 3: Post reading

1)

Have students read the story again and retell it in their own words. 2)

Learn and practice some language points.

Step 4: Summary Summarize the key points: tell a fact apart from an opinion; language points. Step 5: Homework
