Step 1：Warming up

Task 1：Enjoy some verbal jokes. 1. What day of the week is the best for having fried foods? 2.

What month do soldiers hate? 3.

What is the smallest room in the world?

Task 2: Read some of these customer and waiter jokes and match the joke. Can you match the joke with the explanation?

Step 2：A tongue twister competition 1.

A big black bug bit a big black dog on his big black nose! 2. Fresh fried fish, Fish fresh fried, Fried fish fresh, Fish fried fresh. 3. While we were walking, we were watching window washers wash Washington's windows with warm washing water.

Step 3: Reading

3. After reading the funny story, what kinds of persons do you think they are?

Step 4: Listening

You are going to listen to a funny story about jam. Before you listen, look at the exercises below. Try and predict the story. Tell your partner what you think will happen. Task 1: Listen to Part 1 and write down the main idea. Task 2: Listen to Part 1 again and answer these questions. 1. What was Mary going to do with the cooked plums in the pan?

2. What did John think Mary should have done with the mess in the pan? Task 3: Try to guess Mary and John’s reaction.

Task 4: Listen to Part 2 and put these sentences in order. Mary got angry with John. Mary saw the chickens behaving strangely. John was sorry. The chickens enjoyed the jam. John said he thought the jam was porridge. Mary looked at the red mess on the ground.

John said the chicken were drunk. Mary came home.
