Revision Passive Voice

The passive voice is used when focusing on the person or thing affected by an action.

The Passive is formed: Be + Past Participle

It is often used in business and in other areas where the object of the action is more important than those who perform the action. For Example: We have produced over 20 different models in the past two years. Changes to: Over 20 different models have been produced in the past two years.

If the agent (the performer of the action) is important, use “by.” For Example:

Tim Wilson wrote The Flight to Brunnswick in 1987.

The Flight to Brunnswick was written in 1987 by Tim Wilson.

Only verbs that take an object can be used in the passive.

2. Lead in Ask the students to look through the text and find out the sentences in the present conitinuous passive voice. Then observe them. 1) We are being killed for the wool beneath our stomachs. (Line 9)

2) Our fur is being used to make sweaters for people like you. (L10) 3) I wonder what is being done to help you.

3. Definition

表示“某人/事此时此刻正在被…”, 主语是动作的承受者, 表示说话时或现阶段某个被动的动作正在进行。

4. Sentence patterns 1. 肯定形式：am/is/are＋being＋过去分词

The house is being painted. 房子正在被粉刷。

2.否定形式: am/is/are＋not＋being＋过去分词

The house is not being painted. 3.疑问形式: Am/Is/Are＋主语＋being＋过去分词？

Is the house being painted? 4.特殊疑问句的形式: 把特殊疑问词放在

一般疑问句前面。

How many bridges are being built in the village? Note:

“三变”:

原句主语变为by短语

宾语变为主语

谓语由主动变为被动

“三不变”:

原句意思不变

原句时态不变

原句主谓宾以外成分不变。

Eg.

They are building nine parks.

→Nine parks are being built by them.

→How many parks are being built?
