By the end of the class, most students can:

1. Guess the meaning of the words and phrases in bold through context.

2. Read the text critically, correctly and fluently and summarize the main idea of the whole passage.

3. Know the necessary qualities of great women and how to be a great man in the future. 4. Understand how to describe a person in a short passage. Ⅱ. Important Points：

1. Help the students comprehend the story of Jane Goodall’s protecting the African Wildlife. 2. Guide the students to learn from Jane’s story and come to the idea that great personality is of importance to one’s success. Ⅲ. Difficult Points：

1. Enable students to understand what Jane has done to gain the achievements. 2. Strengthen the awareness that one’s personality as well as ability is important to one’s success. Ⅳ. Teaching methods：

Step 1 Lead-in

Ask them a question about Shakespeare and his famous dramas, then, give them eight pictures of four great comedies and four great tragedies. And each picture corresponds one sentence and let students finish this task by themselves.

(The aim-----with some familiar things, to arouse the students’ interest in this class.)

Step 2 Pre-reading Give them a famous saying of Mark Twain and ask them something more about the author. Then, finish the blanks about him according to his brief introduction. (The aim-----with a question, to gradually lead the students to learn about the topic of this class and to predict the reading passage, which will motivate their desire to study it .)

Step 3 Skimming

Listen to the tape and take down some notes according to the four things.

(The aim----- to lead the students to get the main information of the reading passage with the reading strategy of skimming.)

Step 4 Careful reading

To read the passage carefully to get the detailed information and finish some tasks.

Activity 1：Read Act one again, then fill in the following form.

Activity 2：Put the following events in correct order.

Activity 3：Write “F”

if it is a fact，“O”

if it is an opinion.

(The aim----- to know more about this play by catching the important detailed information.)

Step 5 Discussion

If you have one million pounds, what would you do?

Why?

(The aim----- to guide the students to have a proper attitude to the value of money by expressing themselves in English.)

Step 6 Consolidation

To consolidate their knowledge and reach higher levels of learning.

(The aim----- to review the content learned in this class.)

Step 7 Homework

1. Act out this scene in groups of five ( a narrator, the servant, the brothers and Herry).

2. What do you think will happen to Herry? Give him a possible result.
