Help Ss to understand the passage clearly Teaching Procedures Step 1. Warming and Pre-reading

Purpose: To arouse Ss’ interest in learning about the attitudes of different people. 1. Show some pictures and encourage Ss to get as much information as possible. Then ask them to answer the following questions. When you get a large amount of money to use as you like, what will you do with it?

What is the use of one million pound bank note in this play? Step 2. Fast-reading Purpose: To stimulate Ss’ interest in reading the text. Ask Ss to think about the following questions and talk about the answers. 1.How did Henry Adams come to England? 2.Where did Henry work? How much money did he have? 3.What did the two brothers give Henry? 4.When can Henry open the letter? Step 4. Listening and Careful reading Purpose: to get the students to learn the details of the text. Step 5. Summary Purpose: help Ss to build up an outlook of this scene Step 6. Post reading Purpose: to lead Ss find out the characteristics of roles in a play Step 7. Home work Purpose: give a guessing to Ss and ask them to read the second scene after class
