本节课是一节综合技能课，在于培养学生的英语阅读和写作能力。本节教学设计通过让学生阅读来自体育杂志的四个人物简介，给学生提供写作的指导。在教学活动上突出学生的语言运用，结合单元话题对教材内容进行整合，围绕人物简介这个主题，展开阅读和写作。

The type of this lesson is using language, which aims at cultivate the students’

abilities of reading and writing. The design of this lesson focuses on students’

practice of English. I adapted the content of the textbook into two activities including reading and writing whose topic is concerned with profiles. The reading text is a section from a sports magazine in which short profiles of four sportsmen and women are presented. The profiles provide students with a model for the writing.

教学目标：

1、After reading the text, Ss will get to know how to write a profile.

2、Ss will be able to write a profile. 学情分析：

The students of Senior Grade 3 have a certain ability to read and write, they still have great potential ability to develop. As long as teachers provide more opportunities for students to practice, I think they will make great progress in learning English. 教学重点：

1、Ss can make a summary of each sportsperson’s record(s) by reading their profiles. 2、Ss can write a profile of Ashrita Furman. 教学难点：Ss will be able to write a profile.

教学过程：

Step1. Leading-in T: This class we’re going to learn how to write a profile. Question: What’s a profile? Answer: A short description of someone containing all the most important or interesting facts about them. Blackboard design:

Skimming T: I’d like you to read some profiles first. Please open your books and turn to Page7. Glance through the text quickly to find the answers to the following questions. Q1: What kind of magazine do you think the text is from? Answer: From a sports magazine. Q2: How many profiles are there? Answer: Four. Q3: What sports do they do? Answer: Rifle shooting, triathlon, diving and swimming. Q4: What are their names? Answer: Jonas, Michellie, Fu Mingxia and Martin. Q5: Where are they from? Answer: Sweden, Australia, China and Slovenia. Q6: Who’s the oldest? Who’s the youngest? Answer: Martin is the oldest. Fu Mingxia is the youngest. 2)

Complete the summary of each sportsperson’s record(s).

Ss read the text in detail and try to get the answers to the questions in Ex.1. on Page9.

Each team will complete one profile. Then Ss check their answers in

groups of four. Finally, check the answers in class. 3)

Talk about what qualities these sportspeople need to be successful.

Question: What qualities do you think these sportspeople need to be successful?

Answer: courage, determinition, ambition, passion, focus, concentration, confidence, perseverance, etc. 4)

Step3. Writing 1) T: We have read the profiles of four great sportspeople. Now let’s write a profile of Ashrita Furman. Question: What can we write about Ashrita’s profile? Answer: We can write the most important or interesting facts about him. 2) Ask the Ss to find out the useful information for Ashrita’s profile.

3) Ss write the profile of Ashrita. 4) Ss swap their profiles in pairs and correct the mistakes. 5) Ask one student to present his/her profile in front of the class. Sample profile Ashrita Furman Country: America Ashrita Furman is a sporsman who has the most Guinness records in the world. Over the last 25 years, he has broken approximately 93 Guinness records, more than 20 of which he still holds. Being unfit at first, he was fascinated by the Guinness Book of World Records. With the guidance of his teacher, he broke his first Guinness records with 27,000 jumping jacks in 1979. Recently, he achieved his dream of breaking a record in all seven continents in unconventional sports with the motto --- “There’s only one perfect road. It is ahead of you, always ahead of you.”

Step4. Homework Write a profile about someone who you’re interested in using the expressions you’ve learned in this class.
