Teaching material: Book2 Unit1 Cultural Relics Teaching type: writing

Teaching duration: 40mins Teaching aims: after class, students can know about cultural relic and master the sentence structures when giving suggestions, and become aware of the importance of protecting cultural relic. Teaching method: task-based teaching method Teaching procedure: Stage I. Lead-in Three pictures will be given at this step, which aims to arouse students’ interest in cultural relics and get students familiar with the topic.

After talking about above 3 pictures, students can conclude that cultural relics can give us a chance to get close to history and learn about the culture in ancient times remind us of the wisdom and creativity of ancient people provide us with material to appreciate history and culture What is cultural relic? Cultural relic refers to something which was made or used long time ago and has a certain historical significance and can be regarded as a remembrance for past time.

Stage II. Pre-writing Chinese poetry is like the best prize(瑰宝) in Chinese culture’s literary treasure house. Chinese poetry will be introduced in this step as a major part of Chinese cultural relics. At this step, students will watch two short videos produced by China Central TV to introduce the topic “why do these programs enjoy popularity among the public?”

Students’ activity1: Discussion

Aims of these TV shows? 1.remind us of those classic Chinese poems which are gradually forgotten as time goes by 2.enrich people’s spiritual life and spread the traditional Chinese culture

3.arouse public enthusiasm for our wonderful traditional culture 4.promote / deepen our understanding of ancient poems 5.appreciate ancient people’ wisdom and creativity

6.protect / inherit our splendid traditional culture

Students’ activity2: Discussion

Suggestions on learning poems? 1. read as many poems as possible to better appreciate the beauty of poetry 2. learn more about the life experience of the ancient poets, through which you can gain a better understanding of the poems 3. recitation is also an important way of learning poetry
