Teaching aims：

Teaching aids: a multi-functional computer and a recorder Teaching steps: Step 1: Warming up T: In Unit 1 we’ll talk about cultural relics. What is a cultural relic? A cultural relic is something that has survived for a long time, maybe only a part of something old that has remained while the rest of it has been destroyed or has lost. A cultural relic tells people about the past. It is usually rare. Step 2: Lead-in T shows a picture of the Amber Room and says: Do you know what it is? It’s the Amber Room, a great gift from the King of Prussia to the Russian people. It had a strange history. Step 3: Reading Ss read to get the main idea of the passage. Answer the following questions: Q1: Why was the Amber Room given such a name? (Para. 1) Q2: What did Czar give the King of Prussia in return? (Para. 2) Q3: Can we see this Amber Room today? Why? (Para. 3) Q4: What happened to the Amber Room when Germany and Russia were at war? (Para. 4) Q5: How is the new room made? (Para. 5) Ss read again to get more details. Step 4: Group discussion: If you have found a cultural relic like the Amber Room, what will you do with it? Homework：
