Teaching Plan for Unit 1 Using language A Fact or An Opinion? Teaching Aims: Knowledge Aims: 1.Students can master the usage of the important words and expressions,like:worth, rebuild, local, apart, castle, trial, eyewitness, evidence, explode, entrance, sailor, sink, maid, think highly of, informal, debate. 2. Let students know what a fact is. What an opinion is and the difference between them.

Ability Aims: 1.To develope the students’reading skills by extensive reading and enable them to learn how to use different reading skills to read different reading materials. 2.Train students’ speaking ability and enable them to tell the difference between fact and opinion and talk about something which interests them. Emotional Aims: 1.Enable students to protect cultural relics in their hometown or city.

2.Develop students’ sense of group cooperation and teamwork.

Teaching Important and Difficult Points: Teaching important points: 1.Get students to master the usage of important words and expressions. 2.Improve students’ reading abilitity by extensive reading. 3.Be able to master the skills of reading and the main idea of the text. Teaching difficult points: 1.How to seize effective information to understand the text completely. 2.How to train the students reading ability in learing the text. 3.Get students to learn how to tell facts and opinions. Teaching Methods: As known to us all, a good teaching method requires that the teacher should help students develop good sence of the English language. Accordig to Modern Social Communication Taching Theories, i will mianly use fowlling taching methods: 1.Communicative Approach 2.Whole Language Teaching 3. Step 2 Presentation New words and expressions. 1. Scanning and defining. We always say, “We must respect facts and can’t wholly

depend on one’s opinions.” Ask students to read the passage fast and make the

following definitions: 1). What is a fact ? 2). What is an opinion ? 3). What is evidence? 2.Ask students to judge the following sentences whether it is a fact or an opinion. Step 3 Reading Task T: Now imagine that you are a judge, please read the passage carefully to fill in the

chart and make a decision whether the story is a fact or an opinion. 1)What did he hear?

2)What did he see? 3)What did he believe? Step 4 Discussing
