Analysis of teaching material:

As a travel journal, it describes what the author and his sister have experienced during the journey with their feelings. As the second part of the text Journey Down the Mekong, it introduces one night’s experience in the mountains, covering the weather, time, transportation, accommodation, and some views. In other words, it provides a lot of useful information for potential visitors.

Analysis of students:

The students are from Class 1, Senior 1 in Guangzhou No. 97 Middle School. As one of the most top classes in the grade, the students are interested in English and their English level is good enough to handle the normal reading tasks. What they are looking forward to are more challenging and practical tasks, which enable them to make use of a wide range of knowledge and skills to think.

Teaching Aims: Knowledge aims:

After learning the lesson, students will be able to: 1) have a better idea of what elements should be included in a travel guide. 2) gain some knowledge of cycling along the Mekong in Tibetan mountains, covering the view, weather, accommodation, luggage needed, etc.

Ability and skills aims:

After learning the lesson,

students are able to make a travel guide based on the given material by careful reading.

students are able to make decisions on the unsettled aspects in the travel guide by analyzing the present situation with their background knowledge. Emotional aims:

After learning the lesson, students will be able to have a more positive attitude towards making travel strategies.
