1.The teacher gives the Ss some general information about Australia. Then the students will easily know what they will learn. 2.To encourage the students to talk about some places or animals in Australia. Teacher can show them some vivid pictures plus some detail information. 3.To encourage the students to discuss the big cities in Australia, and ask some

students to mark the cities on the map. (Through these activities, the students may have a better understanding about the location and features of Australia, which may be very helpful for them to understand the text.) Step2 Fast reading

Students are asked to read the whole passage and match each part with a proper description. (By doing this, the students can learn to grasp the key words and then get the main idea and the structure of the whole text.) Step3 Careful reading

1.To ask the students to read the first part carefully, and then the students and try to finish the excises without referring to the text. (In this way, the students may be stimulated to remember as much information as they can.) 2.To ask one student to read part two, and then all the students have to finish the exercise. 3.To listen to part three and then students are asked to discuss with each other about the two different routes mentioned in this part and what they see on the way. (The teacher should use the map again to show them the routes to make the students better understand it.) 4.Students are asked to read part four themselves and then they should answer the questions.

5.For the last part, one student is asked to read it, and then the students may catch the key sentences again and then asked to repeat the sentences.

6.To summarize the each part.

Step4 Group work Two or four students a group. They should make a dialogue. S2 is an exchange student from Australia, and his classmates are very interested in the country, so they ask him a lot of questions. (this activity not only help the students to remember the contents of the text but also train the students speaking ability. It will make students to put what they have learned into practice.) Step5 Homework Write a letter to your friend Jimmy and tell him something about Australia.
