The students have learned the usages of present participles for a long time, but they lack the knowledge of how to distinguish a gerund and a present participle , they feel very confused about the two terms.

I. Leading in: see a composition full of mistakes There is a lot of after-school activities in our school, such as dance,

swim and play badminton . Most of the girls in my class enjoy play badminton while boys prefer

to play basketball. I am interested in sing English songs because sing English songs help me learn English better. I also like swim. After swim

for some time, I feel a little tired but relaxed.

Take part in after-school activities not only help us improve our relationships with others but also reduce stress in our studies. I suggest that everyone should get involved instead of sit in the classroom all day.

What is a gerund? When a verb is put in the position of a noun , the verb serves as a noun by adding “ing” to it. In this case , the verb becomes a gerund.
