英语Storytelling Little dog, Panther & Monkey

教学步骤：

Step I Warming -up

Create the story “the find” with teacher, which can encourage students to use their imagination and warm up their mind in the next storytelling.

The teacher just begins the story: I was lost and alone, and I was walking…what could I see around me? Ask one student to add his answer to the story, and teacher continues establishing the story by giving some key sentences and asking some open questions, such as “ How did I feel when I saw it…what did I do?”, and accept students’ free answers to create their own story.

Step II Speaking-up 1.

Pre-telling 1）

New words

By means of body language and paraphrase , teach students new words in the story to help the students clear up the barriers while listening. creature

Lead-in Show the pictures of the three animals, and the most important thing is to ensure the students to know “Panther”.

Predicting Ask the question “What’s going to happen among the three animals?”

While-telling 1）

Begin the story: Let the students listen to the beginning of the story and take down some key words on the story map. 2）Discussion---Stop 1 The story stops at the first place, and students are required to anwere the question “What could the little dog do?” Ask each student to write down his idea on the story map, discuss it and share it with the whole class. 3）Group work---Stop 2 The teacher continues the story to the second stop, and then asks the question “What could the little dog do this time?” Ask the students to discuss it in groups of 4, and make up the dialogue among the three animals.

4）Presentation---Show time Invite one or two groups to perform their dialogue. One student acts as little dog, another two act as panther and monkey, the last one is the narrator. 5）Listen and compare The teacher tells the traditional ending of the story and asks students to compare the ending with theirs. 3.

After-telling 1）Extension: Ask the students to complete the story map according to what they heard and then check the answers.

2）Retelling the story

Divide the story into 4 moments. In groups of 4, each student chooses one moment to retell the story in order, with the help of some prompt words, and remind the students to use their body language and facial expressions while retelling the story. Moment 1: Little dog getting lost and running into the panther. (forest, a pile of white bones, monkey…)

Moment 2: Panther attacking the little dog.(lick, tasty, run away…)

Moment 3: Monkey going to find the panther.( clever, trick, angry…)

Moment 4 : Little dog getting rid of panther once again. ( bring back, frightened, angry, super…)

Finally, invite one or two groups to come up to retell the story, and the audience need to make comments on their performance.

Step III Homework

1）

Retell the story to your friends or your family. 2）

Write down the whole story in your own words.

3) Give a question” What lessons can we learn from the story? And what kind of animals do you think they are?” Ask students to think about that and summarize some character traits , like “ intelligent, quick-thinking, foolish , brave…”
