You are going to listen to a funny story about jam. Before you listen, look at the exercises below. Try and predict the story. Tell your partner what you think will happen. Step 2 listen to part 1 and write down the main idea. Step 3 listen to part 1 again and answer the following questions 1. Which is best title for this story? 2. Why was Mary Smith frustrated? 3. What turned the jam into wine?

4. Did you find this story funny? Why? 5. What do you think of John’s behavior?

6. What was Mary going to do with the cooked plums in the pan? 7. What did john think Mary should have done with the mess in the pan? 8. What do you think Mary is going to say when she finds out what has happened? 9. How do you think John will react to her? Step 4 Before you listen to Part 2, try to put these sentences into order. Then listen again and check if you were right. (On Page 23) Step 5 Fill in the blanks while listening to Part 2 as a second time. Listen to the tape and complete the listening text Then ask some students to read the passage with the right answers. Step 6 Speaking and writing 1. Discuss with your partner whether you think the story you listened to is funny. Give your reasons. Use these words and expressions below to help you. 2. Think of a funny English or Chinese story and tell it to your partner. While telling your story, use facial expressions and some acting to help make the story as funny as you can. 3. Write down the story. Step 7 Homework Please collect as many funny stories as you can. And try to find some interesting words in these stories.
