A fact or an opinion Teaching goals: 1. Target goals: (知识目标) Enable students to master words and sentences. Let students know what a fact is, what an opinion is and the difference between them. 2. Ability goals:(能力目标) Develop students’ reading skills by extensive reading and enable them to learn how to use different reading skills to read different reading materials. Train students’ speaking ability and enable them to tell the difference between fact an opinion and talk about something that interests them. 3. Emotion goals：(情感目标) Enable students to protect cultural relics in their hometown or city. Develop students’ sense of cooperation and teamwork. Warming up Show students some pictures and ask them to name them out. Step 2. Presentation 1. Ask students to read the read the passage fast and make the following definitions: 1). What is a fact? 2). What is an opinion? 3). What is evidence? 2. Ask students to judge the following sentences whether it is a fact or an opinion. Step 3. Reading task Ask students to read the passage carefully to fill in the chart and make a decision whether the story is a fact or an opinion. 1). What did he hear? 2). What did he see? 3). What did he believe? Step 4. Discussion

1. Let students discuss : Is it a fact or an opinion? Step 5. Homework 1. Read paragraph 3 in the first passage on page 5 again and tell how to be a good judge in a trial. 2. Make a debate about cultural relics that need protection.
