Step 4. Presentation 1.Teach Activity 1a

First, let students look at the days of the week at the top of the calendar in the book. Read these words to the class and ask them to repeat. Then display a current wall calendar and ask a student to point out today’s date. Point to the numbers showing the dates of the current week and ask students to copy these numbers into the calendar in their books. Then ask different students to read each day’s date to the class. 2.Teach Activity 1b. First, call attention to the words and expressions in the box. Lead students to red them and explain their meanings. Then ask students to write these words below the correct dates on the calendar in 1a. Draw a calendar outline on the blackboard and ask a students to fill in the correct answers there. Ask the rest of the class to check their answers against those on the blackboard.

Step 5. Practice 1.Teach Activity 1c. First ask two students to read the dialogue in the speech bubble. Lead students to notice a language point and explain it. What’s today?今天是什么日子？

What’s the date today? Then have students work in pairs. One student points to a date and asks, “What’s

today?” The other student answers. 2. Teach Activity 1d. First let students look at the picture. Ask students to tell what the boy is doing. Play the tape for the first time. Students only listen. Then play it again. This time ask students to complete the work. Then check the answers. 3.Teach Activity 1e. First ask students to look at the five activities. Have a student read it to the class. Call attention to the three lettered words. Tell students that I will play the tape again. This time write the letter a, b, c in front of each activity to show which one happens today, which one happens tomorrow, and which one happens the day after tomorrow. Play the tape twice. The first time, students just listen and match the activities with the days. The second time, students listen and check their answers. Step 6. Consolidation Teach Activity 1f. T: After listening to Vince and Andy’s conversation about activities, how about yours? Now, have a quick look at the conversation in the box. Work with a partner to make conversations. One student is Andy. He asks Vince to play tennis. The other student is Vince. He says no and gives the reasons. Give students several minutes to do this task. Later, invite several pairs to present their conversations to the class.

Step 7. Summary In this period, we did some task-based activities to consolidate the target language and improve our listening and speaking skills. Through the study, we learned how to talk about daily activities and make invitations.
