1. Say: Write the comparative forms of the following adjectives. Then use them to write five sentences about you and your friends.

2. Ss work in a group. Check each other’s answers.

3. Let five Ss write their sentences on the Bb.

Ⅲ. Reading

Fast reading 1. T: Let's meet three new friends, Jeff Green, Huang Lei and Mary Smith. What are they like? What do they think of their friends? Now read the passages find the differences between the friends and circle the similarities.

2 .Ask student to underline the comparative words and phrases in the passage. 3. Let some Ss read the passage again and underline the differences and circle the similarities. Then let another Ss read aloud these sentences.

4. Check the answers with the Ss.

Ⅴ. Language points 1. 辨析true, truly, truth 这三个词“形相似意相连”，请仔细观察下列例句中它们词性及用法的不同，然后补全结论部分所缺的内容。

【例句】

1) The teacher said the boy’s words were true.

2) I’ve told you a true story that I have experienced. 3) I’m truly sorry that things had to end like this.

4) Do you think she’s telling the truth?

【结论】

例句1、2中的true在句中分别作表语和定语，它是形容词，意为（1）“________________”；

根据例句3中truly修饰形容词sorry，可知它是（2）______（词性），意为“真实地；真心地”，

词义相当于sincerely；例句4中的truth意为“真相；事实”，是不可数名词，常与the连用。但当它表示“真理”时，是可数名词。

【运用】

根据句意，用true, truly或truth填空。

serious adj.

严肃的；严重的

用来修饰人时意为“严肃的”；

用来形容病情或危害等时意为“严重的”。

比较级形式为more serious。

e.g. Mr. Bai is more serious than Mr. Zhao.

白先生比赵先生更严肃。

I have made a serious mistake.

我犯了一个严重的错误。

【运用】根据句意分别指出serious在下面两个句子中的含义。

(1) Jack is serious and his sister is lively. ________ (2) My grandmother was ill last week, but it wasn’t serious. ________ 3. You don’t need a lot of them as long as they’re good.

as long as意为“只要……”，与so long as意思相同，引导条件状语从句。如：

I don’t care where we will eat, as long as it is a Chinese restaurant. 【运用】根据汉语意思完成英语句子，每空一词。

只要你去参加聚会，我也去。

As long as ____ __ __ the party, I’ll go too.

4. It’s not necessary to be the same.

necessary adj.

必需的；必要的

It’s (not) necessary to do sth.……是很必要的

e.g. It’s necessary to brush your teeth every day.

每天刷牙是有必要的。

5. I don’t really care if my friends are the same as me or different.

【讲解】the same as意思是

【运用】

请根据汉语意思写出英语句子。

7. A good friend truly cares about me.

care about

关心；在意；担忧

e.g. He doesn’t care about his clothes.

他不在乎他的衣着。

8. My best friend helps to bring out the best in me.

bring out是一个习语，意思是“使显现；使表现出”。

bring out the best/worst in someone 意为“把某人最好（或最坏）的一面表现或显露出来”。

e.g. In a basketball or soccer game, it’s important for the players to play together and bring out the best in each other.

在篮球或足球比赛中，队员们密切协作，使大伙儿都发挥到极致是很重要的。

9. I broke my arm last year but she made me laugh and feel better.

break可作动词，意为“打破；打碎”。

e.g. Be careful. Don’t break my glasses.

【注意】break的过去式是broke，过去分词是broken。

break也可作名词，意为“休息”。如：

There is a break during the performance for the audience to have a rest. 【运用】将下面的汉语句子翻译为英语。

(1) 我昨天打碎了一个碗。

___________________________________________________________________ 10. My best friend is similar to Larry because she’s less hard-working than me. similar意为“相似的；相仿的”，可用作定语和表语。如：

Dave and Jack have similar bikes. Their ideas are very similar. be similar to意为“与……相似

Martin’s shoes are similar to mine

be similar in表示“在某方面相似

/ 相仿”。如：

The two houses are similar in shape. 【运用】根据句意，用恰当的介词填空。
