Teaching Plan for Period 1 in Unit 4

I. Teaching aims:

1. Let the Ss learn new words theater, comfortable, seat, screen, close carefully and cheaply. 2. Catch the comparative and superlative degree of adjectives. 1. Remember some comparative and superlative degree of adjectives. 2. Write a surrey report about movie theaters, clothes stores and radio stations. What’s the best movie theater? Sun Cinema. Step 1

New words study

1. Teacher shows a picture about the movie theater to study the word“theater”. 2. In the same way to study the following new words: seat, screen, ticket, reporter.

Step 2

Presentation

1. Show three pictures of a movie theater.

T: The first movie theater is big. The second one is bigger. The third one is the biggest.

Ask the students to repeat the sentences and remember big—bigger—biggest. Make sure that they understand them.

Then ask: Which movie theater is bigger? Which is the biggest movie theater?

2. In the same way to learn:

Practice Look at the pictures, and let the students ask and answer in pairs. e. g. A: What’s the cheapest movie theater? B: Shahe Cinema is the closest. Step 4

Fill in the box (1a) 1. Read the instructions to the class. Make sure they understand what to do next. 2. Read the phrases to the students, and ask some students to tell the Chinese meanings. 3. Write the things in the box. 4. Ask the students to share their ideas and tell the reasons. You can have different answers. Step 5

Listening 1 (1b) 1. Ask the students to read the instructions by themselves aloud. Make sure that they can

catch the main idea of each item. 2. Listen to the tape and match the statements with the movie theaters. Ask the students to write down the names of the theaters. 3. Listen again and try to repeat the conversation. Step 6

Free talk (1c) Pair work: Talk about the movie theaters that they know. e. g. A: What’s the best movie theater? B: Sun Cinema. It’s the cheapest. A: But I think Moon Theater has the most comfortable seats. Step 7

Listening 2 (2a & 2b) 2a 1. Read the instructions to the students, and ask them to pay attention to the two questions on the survey. 2. Listen to the tape and circle the boy’s correct answers on the survey. 3. Check the results. 2b 1. Go through the phrases in 2b. Ask some students to translate them. 2. Listen to the tape again. Ask the students to write the correct store or radio station next to each statement. 3. Check the answers. Step 8

Role-play (2c) Ask the students to role-play the conversation in pairs. The one is the reporter, and the other one is the boy. Then ask some students to present conversations in class. Make new conversations like the model of 2c. Step 9
