About knowledge 1.

Students are supposed to acquire the following new words about birthday: birthday, card, toy, cake, picture, notebook, happy, gift, for and love. The former six words are key to this unit, so students need to be able to understand，say and read them. 2.

Students are supposed to use the following sentences: (the first two sentences are new to students while others have already been learned and practised.) 学生素质发展目标

Students are able to give and receive gift for his/ her birthday. 2.

过程与方法：. Students will get familiar with the words when practising them in some

I. Teaching procedure Step 1 Warm- up. 1.

Greetings. ① Question: Are you happy? Play a video If You Are Happy(simplified version: If you are happy, happy, happy, clap your hands...). ② Let’s sing and act. ③ Question: When are you happy? Show a picture of birthday party.

(I am happy on my birthday. Put on a birthday hat and tell them this is a birthday party. They can join after passing a small quiz.) 2.

--It’s a dog/ card/ book/ cake. (Show a corner of the picture and encourage students to guess what it is. ) ② I like ... . T: Well done! Welcome to my birthday party. Will you say something to me? It’s my birthday. Ss: Happy birthday! T: Wow, thank you, class. I like you. And I like the dog. I like the book. I like the cake. What do you like? Ss: I like ... . Step 2 New words and new sentences.

Brainstorm. What can you see at a birthday party?

T: Let’s watch a video and try to get the English names of these things. 2.

Birthday cake and birthday card. T: This is a cake. We call it “birthday cake”. Please read after me: b ir th d ay, birthday, birthday. And this is a birthday card. Read and repeat. Let’s chant 1: Cake, cake, birthday cake, this is a birthday cake.

Question: What are the gifts that my friends send me? (Play a sound recording: Hello, Mona, happy birthday. Here is a picture for you. / Happy birthday, Mona. Here is a notebook for you. / Here is a birthday card for you, Mona. Happy birthday.) (Write down the words on the blackboard when students answer the question. And

then write down the sentence--Here is a ... for you. Then put the new words into the sentence one by one to practice saying it. )

T: Class, I’m so happy that you give me so many gifts. I like them and thank you very much. Now, I want to give you a gift, too. Who wants it? (Here students get the chance to practise saying “Thank you very much.) Step 3 Consolidation. T: Now, everything is ready, party begins. Thank you very much to come to my birthday party. Look! Here is bag of gifts for you. But only half of you can get the gifts. So I will divide you into two groups: birthday card & birthday cake. The group that get more stickers win. 1.

I can match. Match words with pictures, and tell us--Here is a ... for you. (Two stickers for each pair.) 2.

Work in pair to play role. (Two minutes to practise reading the dialogue. Two stickers.)

Divide a group into 4 small groups and give each small group a birthday hat. Students are taking turns to wear the hat, other members come to him/ her saying happy

birthday and giving gifts. (Come to the front and act then you get 3-5 stickers.) Tips:

Questions: (show a picture of children celebrating birthday.) Are you happy on your birthday? How do you celebrate birthday? why do you celebrate birthday? Group birthday cake/ birthday card, are you willing to share your gifts? Showing the sentence: Sharing makes a happy man happier. Step 4 Homework.
