I. Learning objectives 1. Language objectives: talk about different kinds of TV shows and movies by using description words;

1) be able to use these words: meaningless, action, action movie, cartoon, culture, famous, appear, become, rich, successful, might, main, reason, film, unlucky, lose, ready, be ready to, character, guy

2) be able to use these sentence patterns ① I like to watch action movies because they’re exciting.

② John wants to watch talk shows because they’re enjoyable.

③ One of the main reasons is that Mickey was like a common man.

④ However, he was always ready to try his best.

⑤ People today expect to see more than just a little mouse fighting bad guys.

2. Learning strategies:

before listening, observe the pictures and choose the proper adjectives for each picture; while listening, catch the detail information and know Mary’s and John’s different ideas about these programs; post listening, talk about students’ own ideas about the programs. 3. Culture objectives: watching movies or TV shows is a good way to relax. Choose the program you like for relaxation. 4. Moral objectives: People may have different ideas about the same thing. II. Teaching procedures Ⅰ. Warming up

Imagine that it’s Saturday evening, watching TV and going to the movies can be good ways to relax. Then lead in to the topic. Ⅱ. Brainstorming T: Show some movies or shows on the big screen.

Let Ss discuss about them. Ask and answer what they think of them.

What kind of movie do you like? What do you think of it? Ⅲ. New words

Present some new words on the big screen.

Ⅳ. Work on 1a

What do you think of these TV shows and movies? Choose words from the box and write them under the pictures. Each picture can have more than one word. educational

2. Play the recording for the Ss. Ss just listen for the first time. Play the recording again and circle the words.

3. Play the recording again and check the answers with the class.

Ⅵ. Talking 1d Tell your partner what John and Mary like to watch and why.

Then tell your partner what you like to watch and why. John wants to watch talk shows because they’re enjoyable.

I like to watch action movies because they’re exciting.

Ⅶ. Making an interview

If you are a reporter, please interview your partner about the TV shows and movies he/she likes. Interview a partner with following questions: What kind of TV shows/ movies do / (don’t) you like? And why?

What do you think of scary movies/ talk shows? And why? 1. Work in groups. Look at the questions in 2a.

2. Ask one student the questions as a model.

3. Tell Ss to discuss the questions in the group.
