Lesson type: Speaking and listening Part I. Analysis of the Teaching Material
The topic of this unit is about the invitation. Because Chinese students seldom hold parties, so this is a totally new topic for students. In this period, I will teach more about the usage of “can” by using in the real communicative situation. I chose Unit9 Section A (1a-1c), also combined the writing part in Section B 2d and 3b to teach them how to write an invitation card. The flexible arrangement of the teaching material depends on the teaching objectives and difficulties, not the normal order of the original content in the textbook.
Part II. Analysis of the Students Students have learned “can” to express ability in the textbook go for it from grade7, the unit “Can you play the guitar?”. But students know little about “can”
to make requests. The students in 8th
grade have learned English for some time, they know some English but most of the students can’t speak fluently. Especially, most of them are afraid to speak English in public or use it in their daily life. For this lesson, they are not familiar with the topic and the culture background, so it’s quite difficult for them to write the invitation card. Part III. Teaching Objectives:
1. Language Objective:
1) students are able to use these new words and phrases correctly:
prepare, flu, invitation, accept, refuse, available, day off; prepare for the exam, go to the doctor, another time, help my parents, have a flu, meet my friends 2) Students are able to master these sentence patterns: ①
Students know how to make an invitation by using the sentence patterns “ Can you…..? ”.
②
Students know how to accept an invitation by using “Sure, I’d love to./ Sure, that sounds great.”
③
Students know how to decline an invitation by using “ Sorry, I can’t. I have to/ must…./ I’d love 武汉市卓刀泉中学
