Can you come to my party? Section B

Textbook analysis: In the unit, the learning material is about making, accepting and declining invitations. Section B is based on Section A, which starts from talking about dates with the help of a calendar because it is related to the topic. From Section B 1a to 1f, listening and speaking activities will help the students to consolidate the target language in the unit. 1a provides the students with writing practice. They are demanded to write down the dates this week. In 1b, some words about time such as weekend, today, yesterday and tomorrow are reviewed. Meanwhile, some new ones are introduced. They are weekday, the day before yesterday and the day after tomorrow. 1c is arranged to help the students to practice using “What’s today?” to ask and answer about the dates. They need to use the information from 1a to 1b to fulfill the task. 1d and 1e offer them practice in listening to the target language and for specific items in conversations. The listening material is about Vince’s activities from today to the day after tomorrow. He is busy so when facing the invitation, he has to decline it. These two parts will help cultivate the students’ listening skills. 1f relies on 1d and 1e. The students need to use the information they get from the listening scripts to practice speaking with the target language. This part which is the output is the ultimate goal in learning English. All the activities adopt Task-Based Language Teaching Approach. The function is to make and decline an invitation. The key structure is Can-question. The target language is “Can you play tennis with me?”;“Sorry, I can’t. I have to…. ”

The design is very scientific and appropriate. It will absolutely facilitate their learning and help improve their abilities.

Teaching aims: (1) Knowledge aims ①To learn the key vocabulary and expressions: weekday, the day before yesterday, the day after tomorrow and look after. ②To enable the students to understand and speak, “What’s today? It’s ….”

“Can you …? Sorry. I have to ….”

and make the students use them in real situations. ③To give a reinforced practice in the use of the target language. (2) Ability aims ①Listening: To improve the students’

listening ability by listening for specific or useful information.

②Speaking: To develop the students’

communicative ability using the target language. ③Reading: To help the students to read the target language fluently. ④Writing: To train the students’

writing ability by writing down the information needed neatly and correctly. (3) Emotional aims ①To foster the students’

consciousness of good cooperation and proper competition. ②To cultivate the students’

good habit of keeping on one goal each time until it is achieved. (4) Cultural aim In the US, babysitting has been a traditional part-time job of teenagers who may look after their younger brothers or sisters or the children in the neighborhood. Parents may not allow their children to play with balls in the house due to the damage that could be caused from a ball hitting a TV etc. Nowadays teenagers love to and have abilities to express their ideas freely. Because the topic is closely related to their daily lives. They will be very interested in learning it and express their thoughts. In order to raise the students’

learning interests and keep them all the time. I’ll design attractive tasks to inspire their desire to learn. I am sure they will learn it well. Key point: To enable the students to master the way to ask about the dates and succeed in finishing the listening task with the target language. Difficult point: To let the students use the new vocabulary and expressions to communicate with others in a flexible way. Teaching steps: Step1 Lead-in a.

Making a competition. d. Show a calendar to help the students review some words and expressions and learn the new ones in this class. At the same time, help the students know the ways to ask about the day, the date and both of them. Step2
