Lesson 2 What Do They Look Like?

Teaching background：

Analysis of the teaching methods:

本节课是以长篇阅读的形式呈现，但是作为教师在备课时并没有以阅读的形式去教授，而是在讲解了重点单词和句式的基础上把阅读当做巩固练习来做的。这样既降低了难度使学生更易接受，也充分练习了学生的对话和口语表达能力。

Analysis of the students:

本课教学对象为五年级学生。随着学生年龄的增长,大部分学生的学习态度已经由被动学习向主动学习转变。学生在学习中乐于参与、积极合作、主动请教。因此，此次教学要鼓励学生通过思考、交流和合作等方式，巩固所学句型和激活学生已有知识，扩展学生学习内容，与实际生活相联系，真正做到学以致用。

Analysis of the teaching contents:

本科教学是在第一课Li Ming’s Big Family的基础上，进一步学习李明家人的特点及其年龄，身高，长相。本课中，学生能听懂、会说和认读white, hair, black, uncle, aunt, cousin, thin七个单词。通过本次学习，使学生学会如何用英语描述自己的家人。

Audio-lingual approach、the communicative approach、task-based language teaching. Teaching aids: Multi-media Teaching procedures: Step1: Warm-up (2min)

Play a game—say and action. Touch your eye, ear, nose, hair, hand.

Let one student come in the front of our classroom, while others say out the phrases on the screen. Then, ask them to enjoy a song—finger family. (Aims: 以游戏的形式导入新课，可以提高学生的兴趣，活跃课堂气氛。同时，以歌曲finger family 来引出下一个环节的教学，可以让学生更容易接受。) Step2: Presentation (13min)

Teach the new words: Show a family tree, Let students say out the words:

White、

hair,、black,、uncle、aunt、cousin、thin.

Then, write down these words on the blackboard. Teach the new structures: Show some pictures with the PPT to teach the new structures: -- What does he/she look like?

-- He/ She has________ (hair/eyes).

He/ She is ________ (short/tall/thin). (Aims: 以图片结合文字的形式教授本节课的新句型，可以使学生更直观的学习新知识。预计在此环节完成教学目标中重点句型的学习。) Step3: Practice (10min)

1、After learning the structures, ask students to practice the sentences with the help of the pictures in pairs.

He/ She is ________ (short/tall/thin). (Aims: 让学生以图片结合文字的方式练习本节课新教授的句型，可以更直观更高效，同时也可以提高学生的学习兴趣。此环节的对话设置旨在提高学生的语言表达能力和英语交际能力。)

2、Let students chant together.

What do they look like? White hair, black hair. What do they look like?

Long hair, short

What do they look like? Black eyes, blue eyes. What do they look like? Tall or short, fat or thin. (Aims: 此环节设置在学生学习了新单词和新句型之后，目的是对所学知识的巩固，同时也使学生有适当的放松，以便更好、更轻松地投入到下一步的学习当中。) Step4: Learn the passage. (10min) 1、

Show the photo of Li Ming’s family and the passage, then ask the students to listen to the contents of the passage. 2、

Pair work. Ask students to ask and answer in pairs. What colour is Li Ming’s hair?

Is Li Ming’s mother tall?

What does Uncle Dachao look like? What does Jing look like？

Group work. Ask students to work in groups to fill in the blanks, then let them report just like this:

Li Ming’s grandfather is eighty-one years old. ……

Set up homework for this lesson--Write a short passage about your family. (Aims: 在课程结尾处对学生进行情感上的升华，使学生不仅学会了知识而且在情感上也有所收获。在作业的布置上，更多的考虑到了学生对知识的整体感知和运用上。)

Summary of this lesson: 本节课的教学内容是以一篇阅读的形式呈现的，但是在备课时采用新的思路—先以多种形式练习句型，再将长篇短文辅以练习。这样可以使学生更容易接受。在本课中，歌曲和chant环节可以更好地调动学生的积极性，使课堂气氛更加活跃。
