During this unit, students are going to learn to make comparisons and discuss preferences. The main topic of this part is about some talent shows around the world, their purposes, their influence and so on. However, they have one thing in common---aim to look for the best singers, the most talented performers, the most creative magicians, etc, during which people all can show their talents freely. After that, the audiences will play a role in deciding the winner. Therefore, it can stimulate their curiosity in taking an active part in those activities and inspire everyone who does well in something to be brave and perform on the stage. To be honest, they are able to improve their English in many aspects as well. 二、教学目标

Let students be able to grasp the target language in this unit: A: Some new words, phrases or sentence patterns; B: To get the students master the superlative degree and know how to use it properly. 能力目标

A: To train the students’ abilities of reading and writing; B: Try to get the main idea of each paragraph by getting some key words from each paragraph. 德育目标

A: In order to cultivate their interests in learning English;

B: Encourage them to find out the best way to learn English, such as speaking English as much as possible, participating in some English activities actively and so on;

C: Be confident and brave enough to show their talents.

三、学习者特征分析

Although the students have been learning English for several years, there are still many problems, like speaking and reading ability. They are a little weak in them, so they have to do more practice to improve them, such as communicating with foreigners or friends in English, at the same time, reading more classics, magazines and newspapers. Even some of them show no interest in learning English. Actually, they can arouse their interest in learning it by doing the things mentioned above.

Step I. Warm up

The class is going to begin with several wonderful performances done by students who are truly talented in our class, including the violin piece, guzheng, dancing and singing, which are really fascinating.

Step II. Summary of the shows Some questions will be aroused: 1.

What kind of shows are they? 2.

What did the classmates do just now? 3.

What did they think of them? 4.

In their eyes, who may be the best performer? Why?

We are going to issue the certificate on the spot. Let’s wait and see who is the lucky dog. Step Ⅲ. Lead in

As everyone knows, talent shows are becoming more and more popular. What talent shows do you know?

Step Ⅳ. Reading Pre-reading: Introduce the following famous talent shows throughout the world. 1.

Ask students to think about the common part of those shows. That is---they try to look for the best singers, the funniest actors, the most creative magicians, the most talented dancers, etc. 2.

Look through the whole passage and find out more information. By doing so, they can get a general idea of this passage. While-reading: 1.

Skim the passage again and write down the main idea of each paragraph. They can discuss with their partners if necessary. 2.

Read it loudly again and complete the mind map to get more information about the whole passage. 3.

Read for more details: introduction, opinions, advantages and

disadvantages. 4.

Read it once more and complete the exercises: multiple choices and gap filling.

Step V. Extensive reading

Enjoy a short video about Liu Wei and read an article, then answer the following questions: 1. What do you think of him? 2. What do you learn from him? 3. What do you want to share with us?

Please tell us how you feel. Step VI. Conclusion: During this class, we’ve reviewed the comparative degree and also learned something about the superlative degree. I firmly believe that you must know a lot about it and may want to search for more after class. I expect that you can find your own way to improve your English as well as increasing your interest in English, such as singing English songs, watching English movies and so on.

More importantly, I expect you can express yourselves confidently and bravely whenever there is a chance. Conquer fear, conquer all. Just try to overcome every challenge ahead of you.
