Moral aim: Ss will choose meaningful shows to watch in their free time.

Teaching procedure:

Step 1: Revision

1. Free talk:

T: What do you plan to watch this weekend?

Ss: I plan to watch sitcoms/... .

2. Matching:

T shows pictures of some TV shows.

Then Ss match them with the name of this kind of TV shows.

Ss answer like this: Football night is a sports show.

The voice of China is a talent show.

Step 2: Pair work

Ss work in pairs and talk about these programs.

A: What kind of TV show is ... ?

B: It’s a ... .

A: What do you think of ... ?

B: I like/don’t mind/... them.

They are fun/educational/... .

A: What can you expect to learn from?

B: I can learn ... .

Step 3: Presentation and practice

T: Grace and Sarah are also talking about TV shows. Let’s see what they are saying.

1. Ss listen to the conversation and answer the questions:

a. What did Sarah do in class today?

b. How does Grace like game shows and sports shows?

c. Why does Grace like soap operas?

d. What does Sarah think of soap operas?

e. What’s her favorite TV show?

f. What does Sarah hope to be one day?

3. T explains some language points.

4. Ss read after the tape and imitate the intonation.

Then Ss role-play the conversation.

Step 4: Grammar

1. T shows some sentences. Ss read the sentences out loud and try to find the grammatical rules in the sentences.

2. T presents more examples and helps Ss understand the grammatical rules of wh- questions.

3. Ss work on 3a, make a conversation and then practice it with a partner.

4. Ss work on 3b, answer the questions. T offers help.

Step 5: Summary

T summarizes and assigns the homework.
