Unit 5 .Why do you like pandas? Section A （2a—2d）

一、Teaching aims 1. Teaching key points

1) The vocabulary：scary, kind, kind of, Australia, south, Africa, South Africa, pet, leg, cat, sleep

2) Target language：

①—Why don’t you like tigers?

—Because they’re really scary. ②—Where are lions from? —They’re from South Africa.

2. Ability aims:

① Describe animals and express preferences. ② Express where those animals are from.

③ Introduce own pets simply and clearly. 二、Teaching difficult points

① Express preferences and tell reasons .

② Can use Wh-questions and answers correctly. (why/where)

三、Affect and attitude

Students can learn about more animals around the world. To know Animals are our friends, in some countries, animals are even family members. people and animals can live in harmony.

四、Teaching steps 1. Warm-up and revision 1）To create an English environment, show the class a picture of a zoo. And ask some questions about animals: Do you like to go to the zoo? Do you like animals? Then have them to recall the animals they had learned.

2）Show the pictures that they’ve already learned last class: koala, panda, tiger, lion, elephant, giraffe. Have Ss review them and practice the sentence patterns：Why do/don’t you like them?

2. Leading in

1) To provide students with a world map, ask Ss to find the places of three countries. Have Ss read these words and correct their pronunciation if necessary. 2) Let Ss guess where these following animals are from: pandas, tigers, elephants, lions, koalas, kangaroos.

Then put them in the right places on the map. 3) Description words: kind of interesting, very cute…

To figure out the differences between kind of and very. 4) Listening skills

If the recording goes quickly, Ss can write down the first letter of each word. Then complete them after finishing the listening part.

3. Reading: work on 2a.

1)T: Listen to the conversation carefully. Then write the names of the animals you hear on these lines. 2)Play the recording the first time. Students write in the names of the animals. 3)Check the answers. 4)Point out the adjectives and countries listed on the right. Ask students to read the words. 5）Play the recording again. This time draw a line between each animal and the adjective and countries. 6）Correct the answers. (Use the whole sentence.) 4. Work on 2b

1）Listen again and complete the conversation with the words in 2a. Play the recording for the Ss to listen and write the answers.

2）Check the answers with the class.

5. After-reading

1）Have Ss read the listening text with the recording.

2）Q: Why does John like koalas?

Why doesn’t Julie like lions? 6. Pair work

1) Ask students to talk about the animals they like. 2) Show the conversation on the big screen and practice.

3) Ss practice the conversation in pairs. 7. Pre Role-play

1)Leading-in:

Show a picture of my pet(a dog) to introduce him. Then ask students about their pets. 2)Ask Ss to look at the conversation in 2d. Then offer three questions:

① Who are talking?

② What are they talking about?

③ Who has a pet? and try to find the answers to the questions.Check the answers. 3)

Ss read the conversation in 2d, play the recording at the same time. have Ss complete the form. Ask two students to check the answers. 8. Role-play the conversation&pair work 1)The whole class read after the tape one sentence by one sentence. 2)Have students read the conversation together again. 3)Ss work in pairs and practice the conversation about their own pets. 4) Let some pairs role-play the conversation.

9.Summary Ss read the notes on the blackboard together. 10.Homework

Write down the conversation which students role-play in class.
