Ⅴ. Teaching Procedures Step 1 Warming up Greet the class and introduce what to learn in this period. Tell students we're going to learn how to discuss preferences and make comparison in this unit and learn to

describe things using the superlatives with -est, the most.

Step 2

Presentation 1.

T: Do you like to go to the movies?

Where do you watch movies? What does a good movie theater need? Present some pictures and get Ss to learn the new words and phrases in this lesson.

2. Show some sentences on the blackboard. After that, invite some students to read sentence by sentence and ask them to read loudly. Call attention to comparative forms of the adjectives and the superlative forms of the adjectives, explain the grammar in detail. Step 3 Practice

Ask Ss to do 1a. And get them to talk like this: I think … and … are important.

I think … and … are not important.

2.

Check the answer with the students.

Step 4 Listening Get Ss to listen to the material and match the statements with the movie theaters in 1b. 1. Play the recording the first time. Students only listen. 2. Play the recording a second time. Have students write the name of each movie theater on the blank line after its description. 3. Then correct the answers. 4.

Listen to the three conversation again and fill in the blanks.

Step 5 Pair work 1.Get Ss to work in pairs and make conversations like this.

B: Screen City. It’s the most popular near here.

A: But I think movie World has the biggest screens. 2.Ask some students to act out their own conversations.

Step 6 Let’s talk Get Ss to work in groups of four and discuss which the best movie theater is in our town. Then give a report like this: I think the best movie theater in our town is … Because it is … than …. And it has the … seats/screens/tickets/sound. You can buy tickets the… So I like to watch movies there.

Step 7 Summary In this period, we learned some new words and expressions first, then we learned how to talk about our neighborhood using superlative degree of adjectives. Through the listening and speaking practice, we consolidated the target language.
