T: OK. I’ll invite some of you to go with me.S1, can you go with me?

S1: Sure, I’d like to.

T: Good! How about you, S2? S2: Yes, I can. T: Very good. So if you are not free, what will you say to me? S: Sorry, I can’t.

T: Can we say it like this: No, I can’t./No, I don’t want to.

S: No, it sounds impolite. T: Great! You do have the right to say no, but you should make it more politely. And if you can give your reasons, that will be better . Step 2 Lead-in First, show a picture of a calendar. Ask students to find out the date of today. T: What’s the date today?

S: It’s June 14th

T: What day is today? S: It’s Friday.

T: So what’s today?

S:…

T: We can say the week and the dates out. That is “It’s Friday, June 14th” or we can make it easier like this “It’s Friday the 14th”.

Step 3 Presentation 1.

Teach Activity 1a. First let students look at the days of the week at the top of the calendar. Read these the words to the class and ask them to repeat. Then ask students to point out today’s date.

Point to the numbers showing the dates of the current week and ask different students to read each day’s date to the class.

Make sure the students can understand the three questions and find out the correct dates or weeks to answer. 2.

Teach Activity 1b. First, call attention to the words and phrases in the box. Lead students to read them and explain the meanings.

Then ask students to write these words below the correct dates on the calendar I 1a. Draw a calendar outline on the screen. Ask some students to fill in the correct answers, the rest of the class check their answers. The teacher can offer some help as needed. Step 4 Practice

Ask the class to answer the questions over and over again, try to make them get the meanings of the new words and phrases. Lead students to notice the language points and explain them. Pairwork in groups in 1c. Step 5 Teach Activities 1d & 1e. (1)

Before the listening, show Linda’s plan for these three days. Ask students if Linda can go when I invite her to go to the movie with me. Try to let the students give their reasons. (2)

Have students listen to the conversation. Play the tape for the first time. Students have to circle Yes or No. Then play it again. This time ask students to answer the three questions to know why Vince can’t play tennis with Andy.

(3)

Teach Activity 1e. Play the tape for the third time. Tell students that I will play the tape again. This time write the letter a, b, c in front of each activity to show which one happens today, which one happens tomorrow, and which one happens the day after tomorrow. Ask a student to write down his answers on the blackboard. Then check the answers. Step 6 Consolidation Teach Activity 1f. T: After listening to Vince and Andy’s conversation about activities.

Can you fill in the blanks now? S: Yes, that is easy. T: OK. You have three minutes to finish the work.

Check the answers and have the students read out the conversation.

Show two movie posters. Let the class work with a partner to make conversations. Several minutes later, ask one pair of them to act out their conversation. One student asks the other student to watch a movie together. He says no and gives the reasons. The information in the bubbles can help the students. Step 7 Summary

In this period, we did some task-based activities to consolidate the target language and improve our listening and speaking skills. Through the study, we learned how to talk about daily activities and make invitations. Step 8 Homework 1.

Learn the new words and the target language by heart. 2.
