Teaching aims: Knowledge aims: 1. Useful phrases and expressions: physical, weekly, improve, make promises, have to do with, write down, take up, have…in common, ….

2. Improve the reading skills through skimming, scanning and careful reading. 3. Learn about the mind map to show the frame of the passage. Emotion aims:

1. Make own resolutions and try to keep them. 2. Tell students that doing is better than saying.

Ability aims:

1. Develop the reading strategies though reading skills practice. 2. Learn to read the mind map and use the information to express ideas. .

Too many phrases and expressions: make promises, get back from school, improve your lives, write down…

The reading strategies to improve the reading skills..

Teaching procedures: 1.)

Lead in: ①Do you like reading? ②Do you know how to read? ③ What do we want to know from the passage? 2.)

Before-reading: ① Preview the whole passage. ②. Learn about Reading Strategies. 3.)

Skimming: Read it quickly and match each paragraph with its main purpose and pay attention to the first or last sentence of each paragraph

Use “ to do” to show the purpose.

4.) Scanning:

① Read the sentences below in the box quickly and make sure to know what they are about.

② Scan the whole passage and be careful about the relationships between up-down sentences and the missing sentences. ③ Take the first missing in the first paragraph as an example:
