Teaching procedures Step1: Greetings

Greet the students and tell the rules. Step2: Lead-in

1. Looking at the pictures, review the words about animals.

2. Teaching and learning.

(1)Teach and learn the new words about animals: panda, tiger, lion, elephant, giraffe and koala (help students to pronounce “tiger” and

“giraffe” correctly ). (2)Read and check.

Step3: Match and circle 1.

1b. Listen and circle. Step4: 1c 1. Help the students to make up sentences like this:

I think pandas are smart.

I think giraffes are clean. 2. We are in the zoo, let’s see the animals now. Read

the conversation in 1c,

then ask one student “Let’s see the lions, Jia Qi.”

“Why do you want to see lions?”“Because they are interesting.” Ask another student to work in pairs with Jia Qi. 3. Ask the students to work in pairs and then show the conversation in pairs.

Step 5: 2a 1. Introduce two friends: Julie and John. 2.Listen and write down what animals Julie and John are talking about. (Listening tip1: Write the first letter while listening.) 3. Listen and draw a line from the animals to the description words and the countries they are from. Predict where the animals (pandas, koalas, lions) are from, learn the word Australia and the phrase South Africa. (Listening Tip2: Predict before listening. 1.

Teach and learn “kind of, very and really”

by using pictures.

Eg: I think pandas are from China. 5. Listen and check the answers.

Step 6: 2b 1.

Listen again and complete the conversation with the words in 2a. (pandas first, and then koalas and lions.) 2.

Read 2b in 2 groups, in pairs. 3.

Work in pairs to practice the conversation looking at the chart in 2a . Then with 3 pictures. 4.
