Teaching steps Step 1. Revision Help the students to revise the different TV shows by asking them: Wht kind of TV show is it? Practice reading them aloud. Then go on asking them: What do you think of them/ it? I love / like/ don’t mind /don’t like/ can’t stand it/ them. Why or why not? Because it’s/ they are ... Do you plan to watch ... tonight? What do you plan to watch tonight? In this way, help the students go over the main points we learned yesterday. Step 2. Role-play the conversation 1.

Show the students a picture and say:They are Sarah and Grace. They are talking. What are they talking about? Let’s read a conversation between them and then answer the following questions: What did Sarah and her classmates do in class today? What does Grace like to watch? Why? What dis Sarah think of news and talk shows? Give them some minutes to look through the conversation and get the answers. Check the answers by asking individual students. At the same time show them where they can find the answers. 2.

Go through the conversation with the students and make sure they can understand each sentence. Then focus on the two sentences and ask them to translate into Chinese. I like to follow the story ad see what happens next.

Play the tape for the students to listen and repeat. Ss practice reading it aloud. Then ask some pairs to role-play the conversation. Step 3. Grammar focus 1.

Repeat the two sentences from the conversation in 2d and explain to them that here to follow/ to learn/ to be are used as objectives. Give more examples like this: want / decide/ need/ plan/ try ... to do sth. But let/ make/ feel/ hear/ watch sb do sth. finish /enjoy/ mind/ keep/ practice doing sth. like/ love/ start/ begin to do sth/ doing sth help (sb)( to) do sth 2.

Ask the students to read the sentences in Grammar Focus and underline the sentences using infinitives. Then practice reading Grammar Focus. Step 4. Practice Ask the students to finish the exercises in 3a and 3b. Remind them of the using infinitives. Check the answers by asking some students to read out their answers. Step 5. Groupwork Page 35 3c Go through the chart and find out someone who wants to watch a movie... and then write the name in the chart. We should ask like this: Do you want to watch a movie? Do you hope to watch a sitcom? ... Then ask them to make a survey in a group. After several minutes, ask one or three groups to make a report like this: In our group, S1 wants to watch a movie because he thinks it's relaxing. S2 hopes to watch a sitcom because ... Step 6.
