Teaching steps Step 1. Preparation Help the students to revise the seven days of a week: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Then show them a page of a calendar (November) and ask them: What day is it today? It’s Thursday. What’s the date? It’s November the 20th. What’s today? It’s Thursday the 20th. What’s tomorrow? It’s Friday the 21st. What was yesterday? It was Wednesday 19th. Step 2. Presentation Show the students a calendar and say: Today is Thursday the 20th. Yesterday was Wednesday the 19th. How about the day before yesterday? It was Tuesday 18th the day before yesterday. In the same way, present the new words: the day after tomorrow, weekday, weekend on the calendar. Step 3. Practice Books open! Page 68 1a Ask the students to write the dates for this week on the calendar. 1b Practice reading the words aloud. Then ask them to write them below the correct dates on the calendar in 1a. 1c Show the students a calendar and have them ask and answer about the dates in pairs. Ask some pairs of students to present their conversations. Step 4. Listening

Say: Look at the picture. This is Andy. He wants to ask Vince to play tennis with him. Can Vince do that? Let’s listen. Play the tape for them to listen and get the answer.(No.) Say: Vince can’t play tennis with Andy. Why? Now let’s listen again and match the activities with the days in 1d. Check the answers by playing the tape once more, pause it if necessary. Step 5. Production Page 68 1f Ask the students to work in pairs to practice the conversation between Andy and Vince. Have them just look at the information in 1d. After several minutes, ask some pairs to show their conversations. Step 6. Progress T: Suppose you are Vince. Write an e-mail to Andy and say you can’t play tennis with him. Eg Hi Andy, Thanks for your invitation. I’m sorry I can’t play tennis with you this week. I’m really busy.
